OpenAI has appointed former Indian American Google executive Arvind KC as its new Chief People Officer, a move that brings a seasoned operational leader into the heart of the world’s most watched artificial intelligence company.
KC, a veteran of several Silicon Valley giants, transitions from Roblox and Google to lead OpenAI’s human resources and internal scaling at a moment when the firm’s headcount and global influence are expanding at a breakneck pace.
KC’s professional foundation is rooted in a rare blend of technical precision and management expertise. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University Institute of Chemical Technology (UICT) in Mumbai, India, an institution renowned for its rigorous engineering standards.
He later moved to the United States to earn an MBA with a focus on operations management from Santa Clara University, a credential that positioned him at the intersection of technical innovation and organizational strategy.
His career has been defined by navigating the complex internal machinery of hyper-growth technology companies. Most recently, he served as Chief People and Systems Officer at Roblox, where he was responsible for aligning workforce strategy with internal technical systems.
Before that, he was a Vice President at Google, leading global engineering teams. Unlike many human resources executives, KC’s path through engineering-heavy roles at Palantir and Facebook (now Meta) allows him to speak the language of the researchers and developers he is now tasked with managing.
In his new role at OpenAI, KC will be responsible for humanizing the rapid expansion of a company often viewed solely through the lens of its algorithms. His remit includes overseeing global talent acquisition, employee development, and the cultivation of a workplace culture that can withstand the intense public and regulatory scrutiny facing the AI sector.
“Arvind’s experience leading global teams at some of the world’s most innovative companies will be invaluable as we continue to grow,” the company stated, emphasizing his track record in managing large-scale organizational transitions.
The hire signals a shift toward maturation for the San Francisco-based firm. As OpenAI moves away from its origins as a small research lab toward becoming a global commercial powerhouse, the “human” element of its operations has become a strategic priority.
KC is expected to bridge the gap between ambitious technical goals and the everyday needs of a world-class workforce, ensuring OpenAI remains a destination for elite talent in a fiercely competitive labor market.
