President Donald Trump has discussed firing Attorney General Pam Bondi, according to a report by The New York Times. The report also states Trump floated the idea of replacing her with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin.
In a statement to The New York Times, Trump said: “Attorney General Pam Bondi is a wonderful person and she is doing a good job.” However, it has been claimed Trump has been frustrated with Bondi’s leadership, what he sees as a “lack of aggression” while targeting his enemies, and her handling of the Epstein files.
Sources told NBC news that Trump and Bondi had a heated confrontation at the White House last week, although they did not specify what it was about. Bondi was seen traveling with the president to the Supreme Court on Wednesday for oral arguments in the birthright citizenship case. She also attended Trump’s prime-time address at the White House on the Iran war.

Bondi has been reportedly struggling to regain her footing with the president following the situation with the Epstein files. Trump allies also believe she hasn’t been aggressive enough at delivering wins in investigations against the president’s political foes.
Failing to secure indictments “is a problem for job security with the president,” a former White House official said. “No one is more anxious than Trump to get everything done immediately. He’s at a stage in life where he realizes that time goes fast. He wants action.”

Bondi was Trump’s second choice to head the Justice Department after former Republican Representative Matt Gaetz withdrew amid insufficient support from GOP senators. Trump had earlier considered her for a role in his administration back in 2018, following his dismissal of then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
Lee Zeldin, Bondi’s possible replacement, is a former Republican congressman from New York who previously ran unsuccessfully for governor, Now serving as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, he is charged with protecting human health and the environment, yet has focused strongly on advancing Trump’s agenda of “energy dominance.”
“He’s our secret weapon,” Trump said of Zeldin in February at a White House event promoting the coal industry, adding, “He’s getting those approvals done in record-setting time.”
According to NBC, two people familiar with the matter said Trump has been asking friends and people in his circle about Zeldin as a possible replacement for Bondi — more so than before in the past two weeks. However, other candidates have also been floated.
