YouTuber David Khait said in a post on X that he was asked to leave a Somali restaurant, prompting debate online. Khait, who frequently produces content from a conservative perspective, shared his account of the incident on social media.
“While eating Somali food – a Somali security guard recognized me. Immediately told me to leave and said ‘you want America? America is there’ while pointing to the sidewalk,” Khait wrote on X.
The video Khait posted depicts a more nuanced exchange. It shows him being asked to stop filming, which escalated into an argument with a security guard. Khait maintained that he was in a public place and had the right to record, while the guard insisted the area was “our property.” The guard’s comments suggested he took issue either with Khait’s previous conduct or the content of his videos, though he did not specify the reason.

The incident comes amid heightened attention on the Somali community in the United States following fraud allegations involving some Somali American organizations. According to multiple reports, the controversy has fueled polarized rhetoric and incidents described as anti-Somali or racist.
Khait’s post saw mixed responses. One comment said, “Just when I think I can’t get more radicalized about America having an immigration problem…I watch a video where a foreign-born Somali tells an American. This isn’t America anymore, America is right over there.”
“Sue him for civil rights violations. You can’t throw a Somali out for being Somali and as far as I know civil rights go both ways,” another comment said.
However, other comments pushed back against Khait’s narrative with some accusing him of “race-baiting” and “clout-chasing.” Many of them also asked him why he was recording without permission.

“Bruh you are world most dumbest, how can you be badmouthing Somalis and then go to their restaurant and start eating their food? Are you sure you are not clout chasing with the Somalis?” one comment said.
“Somalis are known for their hospitality, resilience, and honor. Demonize an entire people long enough, and you should not expect admiration in return,” said another X user.
“What was your intention? Were you there to paint a negative image and demonize the Somali people? If so I would have kicked you off my property as well,” another commenter said. “If you treat others with disrespect, do not be surprised when they respond and F’off you,” another comment noted.
