The world’s largest home improvement retailer Home Depot announced on Wednesday a temporary change in executive leadership as CEO Ted Decker will be taking a “temporary medical leave of absence” for the next few months.
As per a statement by the company, two deputies will lead until Decker returns. While he is on leave, Home Depot’s senior executive Vice President of U.S. stores and operations Ann-Marie Campbell will oversee day-to-day operations. Campbell joined Home Depot in 1985 as a cashier and rose through the ranks to become the EVP.
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Richard McPhail will run financial management and the Pro subsidiaries. McPhail joined the company in 2005 and has served as Home Depot’s Chief Financial Officer since September 2019. Independent lead director Greg Brenneman will chair the board during Decker’s leave.

“The Home Depot has the best management team in retail. Both Ann-Marie and Richard are strong, seasoned executives who have worked together for more than 20 years. We are confident in Ann-Marie’s and Richard’s ability to lead the company during this time, and we look forward to Ted’s return,” Brennenman said.
The company operated 2,361 retail stores and over 1,280 SRS locations across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, 10 Canadian provinces and Mexico at the end of first quarter and employs over 470,000 associates. The company is set to announce its second quarter earnings next week.
