Rep. Suhas Subramanyam, D-Va., has urged Virginia voters to support Democratic candidates across the ballot in the upcoming election, saying Democrats can provide an alternative to the policies of President Donald Trump’s administration.
In a video shared on X, Subramanyam said voters should “vote Democrat up and down the ballot” and argued that the administration and Republicans should be held accountable. “They took away people’s health care, they took away people’s food assistance, they raised costs over and over again, they rubber-stamped his tariffs,” Subramanyam said in the video.
He said Democrats would “stand up to Donald Trump” and would advocate for federal workers, children with serious illnesses and communities. He also criticized Republicans, saying they had become “the party of Donald Trump now.”
Subramanyam also referenced Virginia’s constitutional amendments, calling on voters to vote on those measures while supporting Democratic candidates.

The remarks come days after Subramanyam became the subject of discussion on social media over his response to a Tamil H-1B worker who sought assistance after losing his job following a serious medical episode.
According to The Times of India, the man, who lives in Herndon, Virginia, suffered a severe stroke in March 2026 and was subsequently placed on long-term disability through his employer’s benefits. The report said his employer, Comcast, issued a termination notice with employment scheduled to end Sept. 30.
The report said the man’s case was raised in a private Tamil community, where someone suggested contacting Subramanyam for assistance. However, Herndon is in Virginia’s 11th Congressional District, while Subramanyam represents the 10th District.
Subramanyam responded to the discussion by saying the individual had reached out to him, but that his congressional office had not opened a case. He said that if the person lived outside his district, his office would refer the matter to the appropriate member of Congress, according to The Times of India.

“I’m easy to reach, so I get messages like this all the time from every community: white, black, brown, etc. I help everyone,” Subramanyam was quoted as saying. He also addressed criticism over his Indian heritage, saying he was born in the United States and had never lived elsewhere. “My skin color, being of Asian descent, or practicing a particular religion doesn’t make me any less American,” he said, according to the report.
Subramanyam, who was sworn into Congress in January 2025, represents Virginia’s 10th Congressional District. The district includes Loudoun, Rappahannock and Fauquier counties, along with parts of Prince William and Fairfax counties, according to his congressional office.
His latest video places him directly in the 2026 Virginia election campaign, where he is publicly advocating for Democratic candidates and against the current Republican administration.
