Democratic candidate Pia Dandiya holds a narrow lead over Republican Casey Askar in the race for Florida’s newly redrawn 22nd Congressional District, according to a House Majority PAC poll conducted in late August.
The poll, conducted by Impact Research from August 24 through Aug. 31, found Dandiya ahead of Askar, 46% to 44%, among likely voters in an initial head-to-head matchup. After voters were given information about both candidates, Dandiya’s lead increased to 49% to 44%.
The survey also found the district’s generic congressional ballot tied, with 46% of voters saying they would support a Democratic candidate and 46% saying they would support a Republican candidate.

The New York Times’ polling tracker for Florida’s 22nd District lists the contest among closely watched House races. Other public polling has also shown a tight contest. A Tavern Research survey conducted Aug. 10 through Aug. 12 among 551 likely voters had Askar and Dandiya tied at 50% each.
The House Majority PAC poll was sponsored by the Democratic group, a factor that should be considered when assessing the results. The polling record currently available publicly includes both the 50%-50% Tavern Research survey and the 46%-44% Impact Research survey.
Who is Pia Dandiya?
Dandiya is a first-time congressional candidate and former educator whose parents immigrated from India. She previously entered the race for Florida’s 21st Congressional District but moved to the newly configured 22nd District following Florida’s mid-decade redistricting.
The Guardian reported in August that Dandiya was born in Palm Beach County and served as a White House fellow at the U.S. Department of Education during the Biden administration. She has also worked as an educator and school principal.
Dandiya won the Democratic primary on August 18, while Askar won the Republican primary, setting up the November 3 general election. The Guardian reported that Dandiya had raised more than $2 million by August and had received backing from several Democratic political figures and organizations.
A newly redrawn district
Florida’s 22nd District was substantially altered during the state’s 2026 redistricting process. The new district brings together portions of Broward, Palm Beach, Collier and Hendry counties. The redrawn district differs significantly from the previous version, making historical election results less directly comparable to the current contest. The Guardian described the new district as geographically diverse, extending across urban, suburban and rural areas of South Florida.

The district had previously been represented by Democrat Lois Frankel. Following the redistricting, it became an open-seat contest. Dandiya has framed the campaign around issues including household costs and economic security. Speaking to The Guardian, she said voters were more concerned about making ends meet and the future of their families than about congressional district boundaries.
Race remains closely contested
The available public surveys show a contest within a few percentage points. The August Tavern Research poll showed the candidates tied at 50% each, while the later Impact Research poll conducted for House Majority PAC showed Dandiya ahead by two percentage points.
The polling results therefore indicate a closely divided electorate rather than a large polling advantage for either candidate. The November 3 election will determine who represents the newly configured district in Congress.
