WASHINGTON, DC: The criminal charges against a Michigan woman who was jailed for not renewing her dog’s license have been dropped, according to local news outlet WLNS.
Becky Rehr says she drove to the Kalamazoo County sheriff’s office June 23 to prove that she’s recently renewed the license for the family’s 11-year-old dog, Dexter. Rehr’s 14-year-old daughter waited in the car as her mother was arrested, fingerprinted and held for three hours, the Kalamazoo Gazette reported.
“They frisked me and put me in this intake cell with all these inmates in orange jumpsuits,†Rehr told the Associated Press. “I was pretty nervous.â€

County animal control Director Steve Lawrence stated his office gave Rehr numerous phone, mail, and face-to-face notices of the requirement to renew the $10 dog license. The final caution was via the phone during which Rehr was informed a warrant would be requested if she did not obtain a license by May 28.
Rehr said she had “every intention of taking care of it. But with the end of the school year and my job, it just totally got put on the back burner.â€
According to MLive, Chief Assistant Prosecutor Carrie Klein told the Kalamazoo Gazette last week that charges are normally dismissed in such cases once the defendant proves that he or she has obtained the dog license.
“We prefer not for this stuff to go to court,†Lawrence told the Associated Press. “It’s just a $10 license. For some reason, some people like to make it hard for themselves.â€

Why do we even have to license a dog? If we have to, why would you ever need to renew it? Should be a “one and done” – this clearly proves GOVERNMENT IS TOO BIG!!!
You need a license for a pet, a license to drive a car, a license to get married, a license to do business but any idiot with a pulse can breed and vote. God save America.
