Indian Railways is setting a new example by responding to passenger concerns swiftly.
A few days back, the ministry helped a female passenger who was harassed by a male passenger. Now, a father and son duo sought help through twitter, and received it.
Pankaj Jain, who is a Janata Dal activist in Karnataka, was travelling to Merta Road, for his father’s treatment at Butati Dham, on the Yesvantpur-Bikaner train.
The train reaches the station around 3.15 a.m. and stops for 3 to 5 minutes. Jain was worried how he could get off the train with his sick father within that time frame.
Jain asked one of his friends in Bengaluru and he advised him to tweet to the Railway ministry. He tweeted asking for the train to be stopped for 10 minutes, for a wheelchair and assistance to get his father down.
In reply, railway officials asked for his PNR number and coach number.
When the train reached the station, the station master, railway staff and porters were waiting there with a wheelchair. They helped him to get his father safely to the platform and exit the station.
Later, Jain thanked the ministry and officials for their wholehearted help.
“I am really surprised by the excellent support extended to me and my family and all of us extend our sincere thanks to North Western Railway chief public relation officer Tarun Jain, Merta Road station superintendent Amar Singh, the coolies and the station staff,†Jain told The Hindustan Times.
North West Railway Chief Public Relation Officer Tarun Jain said, “I got the tweet from rail ministry and immediately we made sure that railway staff along with wheelchair were available for the person in need at the railway station. Jain and family were taken care at the Merta Road station.â€
