As part of the award presentation, Vij delivered a talk about his career and the lessons he’s learned along the way titled, “The Seven-Mile Journey,” referring to the fact that the company he runs is located seven miles from LSU’s campus.
“I am grateful for this honor,” Vij said. “It was heartwarming to come back and meet the new chair, students, and the faculty. They are taking a very focused approach towards applying AI to cybersecurity. It’s an exciting time to do computer science at LSU.”
After graduating from LSU, Vij founded and grew General Informatics, a local technology company where he served as president and CEO for more than 20 years. Since its inception, the company has grown to service clients and offices in seven states and been named “Best in Nation” by Microsoft from a pool of 6,000 IT companies. In 2020, he founded 365Labs, which was named one of Inc. Magazine’s 20 Fastest Growing Companies in 2022 and this year, was named Baton Rouge’s Company of the Year.
