President Donald Trump has set his sights on the Pentagon. Trump has tasked Elon Musk with gutting the Pentagon, the tech billionaire leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), to uncover billions in wasteful spending at the Pentagon.
“I’m going to tell him very soon, like maybe in 24 hours, to go check the Department of Education. […] Then I’m going to go, go to the military. Let’s check the military,” Trump said in a Super Bowl interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier, an excerpt of which was aired on Sunday morning.

Musk’s involvement in government efficiency has been highlighted through DOGE, which he helped establish in an effort to streamline federal operations and reduce waste. The department focuses on eliminating bureaucratic inefficiencies and optimizing government spending across various agencies.
In January, DOGE gained access to sensitive Treasury Department records to evaluate federal payment systems, identifying potential cost-saving opportunities. However, this move raised concerns regarding privacy, leading to a federal judge blocking DOGE’s access to certain materials to protect sensitive data.
Additionally, some DOGE members have voiced concerns over their ability to access information within the U.S. Energy Department, emphasizing the challenges of balancing government transparency with privacy and security.

Despite these hurdles, the department remains focused on its mission to reduce redundant agencies, improve public services, and cut down on government spending.
Although still in its early stages, DOGE has already been a significant force in promoting more efficient government practices, thanks to Musk’s push for innovation and modern technology in public administration. However, the department’s activities also face ongoing scrutiny, as it navigates complex issues involving privacy and the integration of private-sector approaches into public governance.
