President Donald Trump and his administration seem to have set their eyes on consulting firms next in their Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE-related budget cutting spree. Some of the largest consulting firms in the world may suffer a loss of billions of dollars in federal contracts once the Trump administration decides to cut their spending.
Trump and Elon Musk have already been laying off thousands of federal government employees through their DOGE initiative in a bid to “reduce waste.” In new guidance, the General Services Administration (GSA) has ordered agencies to provide information on their contracts with the top 10 consultancy firms.

Acting GSA Administrator Stephen Ehikian, in a letter to agency procurement executives said that they had identified the 10 highest paid consulting firms that were set to receive over $65 billion in fees in 2025 and years ahead, and said that this needed to change.
“For any contracts between these firms and your agency that will continue, please provide a signed statement from a senior official verifying that such contract is mission critical and provides substantive technical support,” added acting administrator Ehikian.
It is being reported that the list is due by March 7, and agencies must include which contracts they want to ditch and which they plan to keep.
Some firms which might be scrutinized include Booz Allen, which relies on government contracts for 98% of its annual revenue; Accenture and General Dynamics which rolled out the FAFSA (Federal Student Aid) applications in 2024; Deloitte, IBM among others.

What are U.S. government consulting contracts?
U.S. government consulting contracts are agreements where private firms or individuals provide expert services to federal agencies. These contracts are awarded to address specific needs the government may not be able to fulfill internally due to lack of expertise, resources, or time. The services offered through these contracts cover a wide range of areas, including management consulting to improve efficiency, IT consulting for technology solutions, policy advisory for developing and analyzing regulations, legal and regulatory consulting, and financial consulting for budgeting and audits.
Consulting contracts are awarded through a competitive bidding process and often involve specialized knowledge that helps the government carry out its mission. These contracts play a key role in helping the government solve complex problems, implement new technologies, and ensure efficient operations. They provide access to the best expertise in various fields to support government initiatives and public services.
