Intel might be in for major changes if the new CEO is to be believed. Intel’s incoming CEO Lip-Bu Tan has considered significant changes to its chip manufacturing methods and artificial intelligence (AI) strategies ahead of his return to the company on Tuesday, two people familiar with Tan told Reuters, in a sweeping bid to revive the ailing technology giant.
The new direction apparently includes restructuring of the company, which would mean layoffs, mainly to middle management as Tan views them as a slow moving and bloated layer. Tan also plans to focus more on manufacturing, especially semiconductors for clients like Nvidia, which is one of his top priorities.

Who is Lip-Bu Tan?
Before becoming the CEO of Intel in 2025, Lip-Bu Tan had an extensive career in technology and venture capital. He is best known for his role as the president and CEO of Cadence Design Systems, a leading provider of electronic design automation (EDA) software.
Under his leadership, Cadence saw significant growth, particularly through strategic acquisitions and an increased focus on semiconductor design. Tan also served as founder and chairman of Walden International, a global venture capital firm that invested in early-stage tech companies, primarily in semiconductors, telecommunications, and clean energy.
Tan’s experience as an investor and executive helped shape the future of several successful companies in the tech space. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University and a Master’s in Electrical Engineering from University of California, Berkeley. His background in both entrepreneurship and semiconductor technology made him a strong candidate to lead Intel through its transformation in 2025.
