Deloitte will be cutting workers in its U.S. operations after the Trump administration demanded cost measures pertaining to the firm’s government contracts. It is unclear how many employees will be laid off in this cost-saving measure.
President Donald Trump and his administration have set their eyes on consulting firms next in their Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE-related budget cutting spree. In the first week of April, many such consulting firms offered to cut billions of dollars from their contracts with agencies in response to a General Services Administration (GSA) deadline that required them to justify their contracts.

In early March, the GSA had ordered agencies to provide information on their contracts with the top 10 consultancy firms. Acting GSA Administrator Stephen Ehikian, in a letter to agency procurement executives said that they had identified the 10 highest paid consulting firms that were set to receive over $65 billion in fees in 2025 and years ahead, and said that this needed to change.
“For any contracts between these firms and your agency that will continue, please provide a signed statement from a senior official verifying that such contract is mission critical and provides substantive technical support,” said Ehikian.
