President Donald Trump and his administration are facing accusations of misleading practices that could significantly impact immigrants across the U.S. The Trump administration has reportedly moved to classify more than 6,000 living immigrants as dead, canceling their Social Security numbers and effectively wiping out their ability to work or receive benefits in an effort to get them to leave the country, according to AP sources.
Trump and his administration are moving the names and social security numbers of legal immigrants and putting them in a list used to track the deceased, according to two people close to the matter who chose to remain anonymous on Thursday night as plans had not been made public.

In essence, the Trump administration is doctoring government records to target random citizens of the country. However, the list of immigrants does not seem random as most of the names on the list are of immigrants who had been part of former President Joe Biden’s immigration programmes, especially those who have used the CBP One app.
What is the CBP One app?
The CBP One app is a mobile application developed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to streamline border-related processes, particularly for migrants and travelers. Launched in 2020, it allows users to schedule asylum appointments, submit biometric data, and apply for travel documents like the I-94 form. The app also provides real-time updates on wait times and immigration proceedings. Initially, it was a voluntary tool designed to facilitate entry and manage processes more efficiently.

In March 2025, the app underwent significant changes, rebranded as “CBP Home.” It was used to assist with self-deportation processes, and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) revoked parole status for hundreds of thousands of migrants who entered the U.S. using the app. These individuals were instructed to leave the country or face potential removal and permanent ban from re-entering the country. The app’s role has evolved with changing immigration policies.
By moving these names to a deceased list Trump and his administration are revoking social security benefits that have been legally obtained by citizens. On Monday, DHS reportedly revoked the legal status of the immigrants who used that app. They had generally been allowed to remain in the U.S. for two years with work authorization under presidential parole authority during the Biden era, but are now expected to self-deport.
