Tesla is facing another major shakeup in its leadership. The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter that the EV manufacturer’s top sales executive in North America, Troy Jones, has left the company in the latest senior departure at the company.
Jones served as Vice President of Sales, Service, and Delivery for Tesla North America, playing a key role in the company’s growth over his 15-year tenure. He was instrumental in expanding Tesla’s retail footprint, including launching the company’s first showroom at Santana Row in San Jose, which aimed to transform the traditional car-buying experience into a more interactive and customer-focused process

Jones also oversaw sales operations across the competitive San Francisco Bay Area market, helping Tesla strengthen its presence in one of the most important regions for electric vehicle adoption. His leadership contributed to Tesla’s rise as a dominant player in the North American electric vehicle market during a period of rapid industry change.
Jones’ departure in 2025 comes amid growing challenges for Tesla, including intensifying competition from established automakers and new entrants in the electric vehicle space, as well as a general slowdown in EV sales growth. His exit is part of a broader wave of leadership changes at Tesla, signaling a transitional phase for the company as it adapts to evolving market dynamics and regulatory pressures.
As Tesla faces increased pressure to innovate and maintain its market position, leadership shifts like Jones’ departure reflect the company’s efforts to navigate this critical juncture in the automotive industry.
This is not the first high-profile exit since Elon Musk returned to the helm of his companies following his departure from the government. Earlier in the year, Musk fired Omead Afshar, Vice President of Manufacturing and Operations at Tesla.

Tesla is clearly navigating a pivotal moment marked by significant leadership changes amid mounting pressures in the highly competitive electric vehicle market. The departure of Jones, a key architect behind Tesla’s North American sales success, underscores the challenges the company faces in sustaining its rapid growth and market dominance.
As rivals ramp up innovation and expand their EV offerings, Tesla must continue to evolve its sales strategies and customer engagement approaches to maintain its edge. The changes at the executive level signals a broader reshuffling intended to sharpen Tesla’s operational focus and responsiveness to shifting market demands.
