Dr Vishal Narayan, a graduate of Delhi College of Engineering and the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, has been appointed Associate Dean of Graduate Business Programs at the University of Connecticut School of Business.

Expressing thanks to his predecessor “Jose Cruz and the leadership team for their guidance and support during this transition,” Narayan wrote, “Looking forward to working together with our incredible graduate programs team, and the impact they create.”

University of Connecticut’s MS in Business Analytics & Project Management (BAPM) program alone currently enrols 118 Indian students, underscoring the university’s growing appeal among Indian postgraduate aspirants.
Narayan, who has a PhD in Marketing from the NYU Stern School of Business joined the University of Connecticut as a marketing professor in 2022.
Narayan conducts research on how consumer level data from social media can be used to make better marketing and policy decisions. His published research studies how consumers’ online health discussions change due to health policy, and how increases in worker minimum wages in the restaurant industry affect consumer perceptions of restaurant service.
In another stream of research focused on emerging markets, Narayan studies competition between modern and traditional retailers, and how economic migration affects brand consumption in rural markets.

His research has been published in Marketing Science, Management Science, and the Journal of Marketing. He currently serves on the Editorial Review Boards of the Journal of Marketing, and the Journal of Marketing Research.
Narayan has taught Marketing Management, Digital Marketing and Consulting Practicum in various MBA and Executive MBA programs in the US, Singapore, China and India.
Before moving to academia, he worked for several years in consulting and marketing roles in India. In 2021, Narayan was the Deputy Academic Director of MBA programs at the National University of Singapore.
