Indian American filmmaker Mira Nair, the mother of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, was among the guests at an afterparty hosted at Ghislaine Maxwell’s home in 2009 following the release of her film Amelia, according to newly released Epstein-related court records.
The disclosure appears in a fresh tranche of documents made public by the U.S. Justice Department on Friday as part of its ongoing release of material connected to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The records include a large volume of emails, images, and videos compiled during federal investigations.
The gathering drew several high-profile figures, including former President Bill Clinton and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, according to the newly surfaced correspondence.
An email included in the files offers a snapshot of the guest list and atmosphere at the event. “Just left Ghislaine’s townhouse…after party for film. Bill Clinton and Jeff Bezos were there…Jean Pigoni, director Mira Nair….etc,” the message stated.

The same email also reflected a lukewarm response to the film among attendees. “Film received tepid reaction although women like it much more,” the publicist wrote, before adding her impressions of another event tied to the film’s promotion.
“…Hillary Swank and Gen: at stupid party in Bloomingdales cheap sportwear department….very weird. Studio went for free party from store and windows for a month….Going to be in Wall Street 2 tomorrow ….more to come. xoxo Peg,” the email read.
Nair was the director of Amelia, a 2009 biographical film that featured Hilary Swank in the role of pioneering aviator Amelia Earhart, alongside Richard Gere as her husband and publisher, George Putnam.
The email itself makes no claims of illegal activity by anyone mentioned and simply notes who was present at the gathering. As is the case with many individuals referenced in the Epstein-related records, appearing in the files indicates some level of contact or social connection, not evidence of criminal conduct.

The documents also point to direct communication between Epstein and other prominent business leaders, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
Among the emails made public is a message from Epstein dated November 2012, in which he reached out to Musk with a logistical question. “How many people will you be for the heli to island,” Epstein wrote.
The Justice Department said the newly released material offers a clearer picture of Epstein’s communications and his social and professional circles, which included figures from politics, business and the entertainment industry.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said the release was meant to promote transparency, while noting that portions of the records were withheld to protect victims and other sensitive information.
The latest disclosures were made under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, legislation passed after years of public and political pressure for broader access to records tied to the case.
Officials had earlier missed a deadline set by Congress, citing the scale of the review process and the need for hundreds of lawyers to examine the documents before they could be made public.
Epstein was found dead in his New York jail cell in August 2019 as he awaited trial on federal sex trafficking charges. Two years later, Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted for her role in recruiting and abusing underage girls and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
