The United States Department of Justice made public a large set of documents that has once again drawn attention to the personal and professional circles connected to Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier who died in federal custody in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
The newly released files have renewed scrutiny of several high-profile names, including Indian American author and wellness advocate Deepak Chopra, known for his work in spirituality, alternative medicine.
After the documents were made public, Deepak Chopra responded swiftly, addressing his name appearing in the records and firmly distancing himself from Jeffrey Epstein and the crimes associated with him.
“I want to be clear: I was never involved in, nor did I participate in, any criminal or exploitative conduct. Any contact I had was limited and unrelated to abusive activity,” Chopra wrote in a post on X on February 4.
When approached by someone at an airport, he reiterated his stance, saying, “It will all come to light.” He further asserted, “No misconduct. Zero.” Chopra also said he would be willing to testify before Congress if called upon to do so.

However, a closer reading of the newly released material paints a more detailed picture of the relationship. As first reported by CNN, the documents indicate that Deepak Chopra and Jeffrey Epstein were in regular contact over several years, rather than having only brief or incidental interactions.
The records show the two exchanged hundreds of emails and text messages between 2016 and 2019, including in the months leading up to Epstein’s arrest in July 2019. Their correspondence appears consistent and cordial, with discussions about scheduling meetings, arranging travel and extending invitations as they traveled internationally.
According to the documents, Chopra visited multiple properties associated with Epstein, including his townhouse in New York City, his home in South Florida and an apartment in Paris.
The correspondence also shows invitations to private dinners and conversations about introducing Deepak Chopra to people within Jeffrey Epstein’s social and professional network. In several of the messages, Chopra signed off warmly, using phrases like “Love” or “XO.”
In one exchange, Chopra wrote to Epstein, “I’m deeply grateful for our friendship.”
Taken together, the tone of the messages suggests a relationship that appeared more personal and ongoing than a brief or passing acquaintance.
Epstein, for his part, seemed eager to maintain the connection. He regularly inquired about Chopra’s travel schedule, extended repeated invitations to meet, and referenced him in conversations with others.

The documents further reveal how Jeffrey Epstein spoke about Deepak Chopra to others in his circle. In a message to former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, Epstein described Chopra as “hes very amusing and a good guy filled with troves of stories. if you see him, you might enjoy a conversation. he is the guru to hollywood.”
The files also indicate that Epstein asked his longtime partner, Karyna Shuliak, to arrange sweatshirts for Chopra bearing the initials “DC” alongside an American flag, a detail that points to a level of familiarity rather than distance.
Another recurring feature in the exchanges is the repeated mention of “girls,” a term that appears in multiple messages from 2017 between Deepak Chopra and Jeffrey Epstein.
In one message inviting Epstein to travel to Israel, Chopra wrote, “If you want use a fake name. Bring your girls.” He added in a follow-up note, “Your girls would love it as would you.”
Later that year, while extending an invitation to a workshop in Switzerland, Chopra again suggested that Epstein attend “with your girls.”
The records do not clarify who the women referenced in these messages were, nor do they indicate their ages or whether Epstein took up any of the invitations. However, the phrase surfaces repeatedly across separate exchanges.
Some of the correspondence also includes sexually suggestive remarks intertwined with spiritual or philosophical reflections, adding another layer to the tone of the communication.
The connection between Deepak Chopra and Jeffrey Epstein was not limited to social exchanges. The documents show it also crossed into business and philanthropic territory.
Emails indicate that Chopra and Poonacha Machaiah, co-founder of the wellness app Jiyo, turned to Epstein for guidance and potential introductions related to the venture. In July 2017, messages reference plans for Epstein to travel to San Diego so that Chopra and Machaiah could “walk [Epstein] through Jiyo Value proposition.”
Epstein later suggested he could share the pitch with what he described as the “three chairman of the largest insurers.” Machaiah replied that he would welcome introductions “to potential partners in the insurance segment.”

The files also point to a financial connection. In 2017, the Chopra Foundation received a $50,000 contribution from Gratitude America, one of Epstein’s charitable entities. According to the records, the donation was intended to support scientific research, though the documents do not specify which projects were funded.
Earlier emails from 2016 show Epstein proposing potential collaborations, including a game and what he described as an “aura” app.
“On another note the aura app would be gigantic. Every woman needs a goodness meter,” Epstein wrote.
Chopra responded, “I’m at your service for any adventure sir If we do do an aura app it should be backed up with the emerging theory of biofield science. … The monopoly game could be fun.”
The emails also veer into politics, particularly in the aftermath of the 2016 presidential election. Following Donald Trump’s victory, Deepak Chopra told Jeffrey Epstein that his family was “devastated” by the result. Epstein responded, “no no it’s going to be fine.”
The following year, Chopra shared with Epstein an article he had written for SF Gate in which he described Trump as “a President who combines irrational whims, vindictiveness, and amorality.”
In another exchange, Chopra mentioned that Ivanka Trump had attended one of his meditation sessions in 2016. He wrote that he became aware of her presence because “I noticed a pretty girl in the room” before realizing who she was.
