It looks like a Republican Representative is using Zohran Mamdani’s name to target immigrants. Republican Rep. Chip Roy proposed the Measures Against Marxism’s Dangerous Adherents and Noxious Islamists (MAMDANI) Act of 2026 on Monday.
As per a press release by the Trump ally, the act would “deport, denaturalize, deny U.S. citizenship, or entry to any alien who is a member of a socialist party, a communist party, the Chinese Communist Party, or an Islamic fundamentalist party, or advocates for socialism, communism, Marxism, or Islamic fundamentalism.”

“Why do we continue to import people who hate us? Not just for the last six years, but for the last 60 years, our immigration system has been cynically used to disadvantage American workers’ competitiveness in favor of mass-importing the third world,” said Roy in the press release.
“This has not just led to higher crime and lower wages, but also the promulgation of hostile ideologies fundamentally opposed to American values.”
As per the Independent, Roy’s Act is the third bill this year named after Mamdani and sponsored by Republicans.
Who is Chip Roy?
Chip Roy (full name Charles Eugene “Chip” Roy) is a Republican U.S. Representative from Texas. He has served in Congress since 2019, representing Texas’s 21st congressional district, which includes parts of Austin, San Antonio, and the Texas Hill Country.
Before entering Congress, Roy built a long career in law and public policy. He worked as a federal prosecutor and later held several senior roles in Texas and Washington politics, including serving as chief of staff to Senator Ted Cruz, senior advisor to former Texas Governor Rick Perry, and First Assistant Attorney General of Texas under Ken Paxton.
In the House, Roy is known as a leading member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, a group of Republican lawmakers who often take hardline positions on spending, immigration, and government policy. He is considered part of the party’s right-wing policy bloc and frequently critiques both Democratic proposals and compromises within his own party.
Roy has focused heavily on issues such as border security, reducing federal spending, and limiting government expansion. He has also been involved in internal Republican debates over fiscal policy, at times opposing spending bills he views as increasing the national deficit.

Outside of policy work, Roy is also known for his combative political style and willingness to challenge party leadership when he disagrees with legislative strategy or priorities.
The proposal by Chip Roy reflects ongoing debates about immigration, national security, and ideology in U.S. politics. However, it has drawn criticism for broadly targeting individuals based on political and religious associations, raising concerns about civil liberties and discrimination.
The use of a public figure’s name in branding legislation, referencing Zohran Mamdani, has also been seen as provocative and politically polarizing.
