The Illinois Department of Central Management Services has formally recognized Indian American public servant Priyankka Deo for her leadership in driving operational excellence and government transformation.
The recognition was part of the state department’s observance of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, which is marked annually across the United States in May.
In a social media feature, the agency highlighted Deo’s role as an “Operational Excellence Manager” dedicated to improving processes across Illinois state government operations to deliver measurable results.

According to the department, Deo’s leadership helps drive continuous improvement across state government. State officials noted that she brings a powerful cross-cultural perspective shaped by her roots in India and the United States, applying discipline, adaptability, and accountability to strengthen complex processes for Illinois residents.
Reflecting on her career and heritage within public service, Deo shared a statement online thanking the state for the recognition. She noted that she is proud to serve the people of Illinois as an Indian American in state government and expressed gratitude for the feature highlighting the work being done across operational excellence and government transformation.
“Proud to serve the people of Illinois as an Indian American in state government,” she posted on LinkedIn. “Public service is ultimately about strengthening systems, improving trust, and delivering meaningful outcomes for the communities we serve.”

The agency also shared Deo’s core advice for emerging professionals and others working in public service. She noted that individuals should embrace their unique perspective, lead with personal initiative, and actively turn administrative insights into action that moves important work forward.
Deo is currently pursuing an applied Doctor of Public Administration focused on governance, policy, and organizational leadership at University of Illinois Springfield.
She also works as an independent journalist for NDTV providing on-air analysis covering U.S.–India relations, trade, and emerging technology developments.
Before coming to the United States, Deo worked as Chief Manager Bennett Coleman and Co. Ltd. (Times Group), New Delhi, India. There she led digital and public affairs initiatives at the group level, supporting media strategy, regulatory engagement, and cross-platform growth.
