Apple, in its annual update on the state of the App Store ecosystem released ahead of its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), said the App Store facilitated more than $1.4 trillion in developer billings and sales in 2025, up from $1.3 trillion reported a year earlier.
According to TechCrunch, the figure encompasses all commerce conducted through apps on Apple’s platform. Apple uses the metric to highlight the broader economic opportunities the App Store creates for developers beyond in-app purchases, while emphasizing that its own revenue—derived from commissions on digital goods and services purchased within apps—represents only a small portion of the total.

Apple also said that roughly 90% of the $1.4 trillion in billings and sales came from transactions on which developers paid no commission to the company.
“Developers are the heartbeat of the App Store, and this year’s incredible milestone is a testament to their boundless creativity,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said. “We are deeply committed to providing developers with the tools, technologies, and trusted platforms they need to build for the future. Together, developers are creating apps that enrich the lives of users around the world.”
The 2025 figure included $1.1 trillion in sales of physical goods and services and $149 billion in billings and sales for digital goods. The digital goods are largely commissioned at a rate of 15% to 30%, depending on transaction type and the size of the business, and is higher than the $131 billion Apple reported last year.
Apple also said that in-app revenue from ads was $151 billion in 2025, up from $150 billion the year prior. The company also pointed out that the App Store saw over 850 million average weekly users from across 175 countries and regions in 2025.

Apple highlighted AI apps, claiming that 40 of the top 100 apps in 2025 had consumer-facing AI capabilities, and these saw stronger billing growth than the others in the top 100. The TechCrunch report said this could be the stage for a WWDC announcement about Apple’s plans to allow AI agents on its App Store, as rumors claim.
Apple’s announcement also mentioned the App Store’s growth in China, saying that, in the last six years, billings and sales facilitated by the App Store have more than doubled in the country. Meanwhile, billings and sales in the App Store more than tripled in the U.S. and Europe.
