Cloudera has appointed Abhas Ricky as chief business officer and general manager of Applied AI, expanding the responsibilities of a longtime executive as the company continues to focus on enterprise artificial intelligence and data management.
The announcement adds business leadership responsibilities to Ricky’s existing strategic role at the company. According to Cloudera, he will oversee business operations while leading the Applied AI organization, which focuses on helping the customers develop and deploy AI-driven solutions.
Ricky has been part of Cloudera’s leadership team for several years. He was appointed chief strategy officer in 2022, a role that placed him in charge of corporate strategy, pricing, product introduction initiatives and other functions tied to the company’s growth plans. Before that, he served as chief of staff and vice president of business transformation following Cloudera’s merger with Hortonworks.

The leadership change comes as companies across industries seek ways to integrate artificial intelligence into their operations while managing large volumes of data. Cloudera has increasingly positioned itself as a provider of data, analytics and AI technologies for enterprise customers operating in hybrid cloud environments.
Ricky has also been closely involved with Cloudera’s growth strategy in India, describing the country as one of the company’s fastest-growing markets.
In a 2024 interview, he said India plays an important role in Cloudera’s global operations, citing the company’s research and development presence and customer base in sectors including financial services, telecommunications and the public sector.

Cloudera’s expanded mandate for Ricky reflects the growing importance of AI within the company’s business strategy. The appointment places him at the intersection of corporate planning, business execution and AI-focused initiatives as organizations continue investing in technologies designed to improve data management and decision-making.
The company, which operates as a private business after its acquisition by investment firms KKR and Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, provides data and AI platforms used by enterprises around the world. Cloudera has said its strategy centers on helping organizations manage data and analytics workloads across cloud and on-premises environments.
The announcement marks another leadership milestone for Ricky, whose responsibilities have expanded from strategy and transformation initiatives to a broader role overseeing business operations and applied AI efforts across the company.
