Meta Platforms launched new artificial intelligence features for Facebook on Monday, headlined by a natural language search feature called “AI Mode” that answers user questions by aggregating public posts across the platform.
The update introduces a conversational discovery model to Facebook’s search infrastructure. Instead of giving standard lists of web links or platform pages, AI Mode synthesizes direct responses based on all the contents and recommendations of publicly shared posts, including discussions within Facebook Groups and video captions from public Reels. Meta stated that this feature is designed to help users obtain information directly from the perspectives and experiences of real people.
The introduction is an addition to the company’s recent strategy to integrate conversational features into its social ecosystem. Earlier this year, Meta quietly launched Forum, a separate Reddit-style application featuring an AI-driven question-and-answer module that similarly sources information from group activity.

Beyond conversational search, Meta introduced several automated creative tools for content creation and sharing. A new photo preset system allows users to modify their appearance digitally within Facebook Stories and profile pictures, enabling them to virtually swap hairstyles, accessories, or clothing, such as a sports team jersey.
The update also features automated sharing suggestions for media stored on a user’s device. When users access their camera rolls, the system can automatically suggest collage templates or apply transition effects to build video montages. Meta explained that these creative sharing suggestions operate on an opt-in basis, allowing users to disable them entirely.
The integration follows a series of AI implementations executed by the company over the first half of the year. Meta previously introduced animated profile picture generators in February, followed by an automated buyer-response tool for Facebook Marketplace merchants in March, and an AI assistant providing analytics and recommendations for content creators in early June.

People pointed out that aggregating unverified user-generated content might cause accuracy issues and reliability challenges. Because AI Mode summarizes casual community discussions rather than verified or authoritative databases, the system risks propagating outdated information or inaccurate advice.
By introducing such automated features, Meta seeks to increase their user engagement and diversify revenue streams. The features are launched alongside the company’s global subscription plans for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, which retail at approximately $3.99 per month for basic feature access, while specialized AI-driven subscription tiers remain in development.
