Apple’s latest iOS 27 beta provides a number of updates to its now AI-powered Siri, according to TechCrunch. One of the new features, according to testers, is the ability to adjust how quickly and expressively the AI assistant speaks.
In iOS 27 beta 3, which is out Tuesday, Apple has enabled the voice controls for “Pace” and “Expressivity” that were previously labeled as “coming soon” in the first developer beta releases.
The TechCrunch report also mentioned that the update is part of Apple’s efforts to make Siri feel natural as it revamps the assistant around artificial intelligence. This comes following similar efforts by OpenAI for its chatbot ChatGPT. The availability to adjust the AI’s warmth and enthusiasm was rolled out in December 2025, along with options to configure the base style and tone. The features allow users to make the chatbot sound professional, candid, or quirky, among other styles.

Siri’s new customizations were first introduced at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. The assistant’s personalization options have gone beyond just choosing a male- or female-sounding assistant. Beta testers are able to switch between a range of voices with different accents, and then use sliders to change how slowly or quickly Siri speaks and how much human-like emotion its voice conveys.
The AI version of Siri is deeply integrated across the updated version of iOS, where it will allow iPhone owners to start conversations by speaking, swiping down from the Dynamic Island at the top of the screen and typing, tapping on the phone’s side button, or even by using the brand-new standalone Siri app. Other minor updates are also rolling out with iOS 27, including an updated Reminders app icon.

Previously, a Bloomberg report mentioned that Apple is testing a new feature that would let Siri process multiple requests in a single query. This would bring the assistant in line with the capabilities of AI assistants. With the new update, users will no longer have to ask Siri to do something, then pause and ask for something else. So, a command like “Start a timer for 15 minutes, then tell me what the weather is,” will work.
Siri’s revamp is an attempt by Apple to catch up with its competitors in the AI race. This comes after its rollout Apple Intelligence in 2024 saw a lukewarm reception.
