Dr. Manoj Mishra, a professor of biology and founding director of the Cancer Research Center at Alabama State University, has been appointed to serve on the American Association of Immunologists Career Development Core Committee. His two-year term with the national organization officially began on July 1, 2026.
In this leadership role, Mishra will participate in national initiatives designed to expand career development, training opportunities and professional resources for immunologists across various stages of their careers.
The appointment showcases ASU’s growing presence in biomedical research and higher education. The committee serves as a central element of the American Association of Immunologists’ updated governance framework, supporting programs that foster professional growth and advance scientific research globally.

Mishra said the national appointment reflects positively on the university’s research priorities and academic mission, noting the visibility it brings to the campus.
At ASU, Mishra leads efforts centered on tumor immunology, prostate cancer research and cancer health disparities. Under his direction as director of the Cancer Research Center, the institution has expanded its research opportunities and mentoring programs for undergraduate and graduate students.
Mishra earned his bachelor’s degree in zoology, botany and chemistry from DAV College in Siwan, India, before completing his master’s degree in zoology and doctorate in reproductive physiology at Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi.

Following his academic training in India, he relocated to the United States to complete postdoctoral fellowships at Kansas State University, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Before joining Alabama State University as a faculty member in 2009, Mishra worked as a research scientist in the Department of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
In addition to his primary role at ASU, he holds an adjunct appointment in the Department of Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
