Aga’s Restaurant, a family-run Indian-Pakistani restaurant in a Houston strip mall, has become the busiest single-location restaurant on Uber Eats worldwide, handling a huge volume of delivery and takeout orders alongside thousands of daily dine-in customers.
The 16,000-square-foot restaurant serves about 4,000 dine-in guests a day and handles another 1,600 or so takeout and delivery orders, according to The New York Times. Aga’s says its total takeout and delivery volume is about half a million orders a year, with annual revenue stretching well into eight figures.
Uber Eats says Aga’s receives more delivery orders than any other single-location restaurant worldwide. The distinction was also reported by Business Insider and the Houston Chronicle. The restaurant’s popularity is particularly notable because Indian and Pakistani cuisine is not among Uber Eats’ three most-ordered cuisines, while Houston is not among the platform’s top three cities for delivery.

The success has created a constant stream of delivery drivers outside Aga’s. Uber Eats driver Gilbert Guajardo told The New York Times that 99 percent of his delivery orders come from Aga’s. He said he earned about $50,000 from Aga’s deliveries over two years. Some drivers now primarily deliver from the restaurant because of the steady flow of orders and tips.
Aga’s also handles a large number of orders directly from customers. The family has converted a storage room into a call center, where employees take orders in multiple languages.
From struggling restaurant to Houston institution
The Maredia family, consisting of six brothers and sisters, purchased Aga’s in 2010 despite having no previous restaurant experience.
Shaukat Maredia, one of the owners, recalled that the restaurant was struggling when the family bought it. The siblings renovated the space, improved the service and introduced dishes inspired by their Indian and Pakistani backgrounds.
They added regional specialties such as Hyderabadi gosht and Balti gosht while relying on family members, YouTube videos and other sources to learn more about cooking. The restaurant initially grew through word of mouth. By 2013, it was profitable.
The biggest turning point came during the COVID-19 pandemic. Aga’s had started offering delivery two years earlier, and demand surged as customers increasingly ordered food at home. The restaurant expanded its kitchen and increased its workforce by about 20 percent. Aga’s now employs about 200 people, according to Shaukat Maredia, with an average wage of about $20 an hour.
The restaurant says about 60 percent of its customers are South Asian, while 40 percent come from other backgrounds.
Houston’s diverse community drives demand
Bao Ong, a Houston Chronicle restaurant critic who named Aga’s the city’s best restaurant in 2025, said the restaurant’s appeal is closely connected to Houston’s diverse population.
The Houston area has about 655,000 South Asian residents, according to research cited by The New York Times from Rice University’s Kinder Institute for Urban Research.
Aga’s has retained its focus on Indian and Pakistani flavors rather than significantly modifying its food for mainstream tastes.
Its menu includes dishes such as nihari, kebabs, goat chops, biryani, Hyderabadi gosht and Balti gosht.
The restaurant can become extremely crowded during peak periods, with hundreds of people waiting for tables. Its banquet hall was converted into additional dining space in 2019 because of demand.
Delivery companies compete for Aga’s business
Aga’s volume has also given the restaurant leverage when negotiating with delivery companies.
Shaukat Maredia said the restaurant persuaded DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub to reduce their commissions in exchange for Aga’s business. He did not disclose the terms, citing nondisclosure agreements.

The companies did not confirm those specific claims, although DoorDash and Uber Eats have promoted Aga’s around Houston. Uber Eats accounted for about 31 percent of the U.S. delivery market in 2026, while DoorDash held about 64 percent, according to YipitData figures cited by The New York Times.
DoorDash declined to provide Aga’s sales or ranking information but described it as a “top performing restaurant.”
Expansion beyond Houston
The Maredia family is now expanding the Aga’s model.
The restaurant recently opened a takeout location in Katy, about 30 miles west of Houston. The family is also planning a nearby commissary kitchen and additional takeout locations across Texas.
The Katy location was designed specifically for takeout and delivery. The family has already begun discussions about expanding into an adjoining storefront after finding that the new location could quickly become too small.
Aga’s rise from a struggling strip-mall restaurant to Uber Eats’ top single-location restaurant illustrates the scale that a locally rooted Indian-Pakistani restaurant can achieve through strong community demand, delivery and consistent operations.
