Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI has launched Grok Imagine 1.0, a new update that introduces 10-second video generation, 720p resolution, and significantly improved audio. In an official post on X, the company described the release as its “biggest leap yet.”
The company added that with the new update, users will “experience stories that unfold fully,” with “sharper detail and smoother motion that draws you deeper into the scene.” Videos on Grok Imagine 1.0 will now be longer and have higher resolution.
Users have immediately hoped on the platform using it to generate videos of everything, from dinosaurs to ancient warriors. However, their response was mixed. Some users praised the update — one post read, “Just got my hands on Grok Imagine 1.0 and wow, it’s like the AI finally learned to daydream! From wild ideas to practical solutions, it’s a game-changer. Can’t wait to see what kind of creativity it sparks. Anyone else trying it out?” However, others were more critical of Imagine 1.0, saying it didn’t meet their expectations.

According to a post from the official Grok account, the tool is free for both Basic and Premium users. However, the Premium users have access to some additional features.
This new development comes during a time of turmoil for X and Grok with French and British authorities investigating it for suspected offences. The UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) announced a probe into Musk’s AI tool, Grok, over its “potential to produce harmful sexualized image and video content,” while the French offices of X have been raided by the Paris prosecutor’s cyber-crime unit, as part of an investigation into suspected offences including unlawful data extraction and complicity in the possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

Grok had come under fire for its ability to create nonconsensual sexualized images of real people, including children. Users were able to generate such images for days before xAI responded to the backlash by restricting this ability. However, users can reportedly still generate such images using Grok’s standalone app.
xAI recently went through a merger, which restructured Elon Musk’s holdings and gave him 43% stake in the newly combined company which is estimated to be $542 billion. The consolidation brings together SpaceX’s core space exploration and Starlink satellite internet operations with xAI’s advanced AI research and products under one corporate umbrella. As per Forbes, the deal valued the combined entity at $1.25 trillion, giving a boost to Musk’s personal fortune by $84 billion to a staggering $852 billion.
