A new Forbes ranking of the 250 most successful immigrants in American history has highlighted the growing influence of Indian-origin leaders in the United States, with 26 individuals of Indian heritage earning places on the list.
Released ahead of the United States’ 250th anniversary celebrations, the ranking recognizes immigrants whose contributions have left a lasting mark on American society through business, science, technology, culture and public service.

The India-connected honorees include venture capitalist Vinod Khosla; entrepreneur and investor Naval Ravikant; venture capitalist Hemant Taneja; Micron Technology CEO Sanjay Mehrotra; Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai; Nobel Prize-winning economist Abhijit Banerjee; author and television host Padma Lakshmi; Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella; cybersecurity entrepreneur Jay Chaudhry; technology executive Romesh T. Wadhwani; early Google investor Kavitark Ram Shriram; software entrepreneur Jyoti Bansal; technology executive Neha Narkhede; investor David Paul; entrepreneur Jitendra Mohan; technology executive Nikesh Arora; defense technology leader Shyam Sankar; entrepreneur Raj Sardana; technology entrepreneur Aman Narang; IBM CEO Arvind Krishna; Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen; clean-energy innovator K.R. Many of the honorees were born in India and later built careers in the United States after pursuing higher education and professional opportunities abroad. Their accomplishments span industries that have helped define the modern American economy, from semiconductors and software to artificial intelligence, finance and consumer products.

Several of the leaders are among the most recognizable executives in corporate America. Pichai, who was born in Chennai, India, leads Google and its parent company Alphabet. Nadella, who was born in Hyderabad, India, has overseen Microsoft’s expansion in cloud computing and artificial intelligence. Nooyi, who was born in Chennai and later studied in the United States, became one of the most influential business leaders of her generation during her tenure at PepsiCo.
The list also shows the impact of Indian-born entrepreneurs and investors on Silicon Valley. Khosla, an immigrant from India and co-founder of Sun Microsystems, helped finance and mentor generations of technology startups. Others, including Ravikant, Taneja, Bansal and Narkhede, have played significant roles in entrepreneurship, venture capital and software innovation.
Forbes’ recognition of 26 Indian-origin figures underscores the deep ties between India and the United States and showcases the contributions of immigrants whose work has influenced industries, created jobs and advanced innovation. Collectively, the honorees represent a broad range of achievements that continue to shape American economic and cultural life.
