University of Nevada, Las Vegas track and field standout Krishna Jayasankar has secured a spot on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team underscoring her status as a premier scholar and an All-American thrower.
Jayasankar is a senior who recently graduated with a Master of Higher Education degree and maintained a perfect 4.00 grade-point average. She now advances as a finalist on the national ballot for CSC Academic All-America honors, with the final selections set to be announced on July 15.
To qualify for the academic distinction, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, hold at least sophomore academic and athletic standing, and rank among the nation’s top 50 in an individual event.

Born and raised in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, Jayasankar’s athletic excellence is deeply tied to her family heritage. She is the daughter of C. Jayasankar Menon and Prasanna Jayasankar. Her father captained the Indian men’s national basketball team, and her mother captained the Indian women’s national basketball team.
Growing up in a household where basketball shaped daily life, Jayasankar instead discovered a passion for the throwing circle. She completed her early schooling at Chennai’s SBOA School and Junior College, competing in regional and national meets before making history as the first female thrower from India to secure an NCAA Division I scholarship.
Her path to collegiate success eventually led her to train in Jamaica under coach Horace Michael Russell. She initially competed at the collegiate level for UTEP before transferring to UNLV.
During the indoor season, Jayasankar solidified her legacy by becoming the first Indian thrower to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships, breaking three Indian indoor national records along the way.

She took second place at the Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships with a shot put distance of 17.09 meters, representing the second-highest mark in UNLV program history.
Furthermore, she became the first Indian woman to clear the 16-meter threshold indoors, ultimately finishing 13th at the national championships with a mark of 16.54 meters to earn Second Team All-American honors.
Throughout the campaign, Jayasankar captured three individual titles, claiming top honors at the UNR Invitational, the New Mexico Team Open, and the Don Kirby Elite Invitational.
As a four-time UNLV Dean’s List honoree and a consistent Academic All-Mountain West recipient, she has successfully balanced rigorous training regimens with elite academic performance. Her stellar tenure at UNLV also includes being nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year.
