Two popular squishy dumpling toy brands have been recalled in the U.S. after safety officials warned that the toys contain water beads that pose a potentially life-threatening risk.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of more than 15,000 squishy toys from two popular brands — GIHNJSI’s Squeezy Dumplings and OKK Trading’s Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys — on Sept. 3. Federal authorities said both products contain water beads that can expand inside a child’s body if ingested, potentially causing choking, intestinal blockage, severe discomfort, vomiting and dehydration and, in serious cases, death.
The recalls cover approximately 8,000 Squeezy Dumplings toys, which were sold through Amazon by Chenyuanhui between May and June 2026 for about $20, and 7,200 Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys, which were sold through various third-party retailers nationwide between May and August 2026.

Squeezy Dumplings toys are translucent, round squishy balls featuring cartoon faces, glitter-like particles and water beads inside. Their container resembles a bamboo steamer and has labels that say “SQUEEZY DUMPLINGS” and “SQUEEZE ME.”
The Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys have a similar appearance. Their packaging carries the words “Rainbow MYSTERY” and “SUGAR EDITION,” along with similar containers and water beads.
The commission said the toys violate the mandatory federal safety standard for toys because the water beads could expand beyond the allowed size. The commission said no injuries have been reported in connection with either recalled product but urged consumers to stop using the toys.
Consumers who purchased Squeezy Dumplings are instructed to apply for a refund. To receive a refund, they must write “RECALLED” on both the toy and its container, dispose of the product and send a photograph to the company for a full refund. For Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys, the photo must be sent to recall@okktoys.com, while for GIHNJSI, it must be sent to GIHNJSI_recall@163.com.

The federal agency also warned about 106 Squishy Bun Toys sold by Ivyapingdainpu, which also contain water beads and do not meet federal safety requirements. Despite receiving a Notice of Violation, the seller has not agreed to recall the products or provide a remedy. The toys were sold through Amazon in June and may have been offered by other online sellers.
Squishy toys have become popular among children and through social media trends, with creators often unboxing the toys and playing with them.
The commission has urged anyone who experiences an injury related to the toys or notices any defects to contact the agency.
