A 14-year-old boy who was charged earlier this week with killing his pregnant mother has confessed to the crime, investigators revealed Thursday.
The teenager attested he stabbed and strangled his mom, 33-year-old Nita Moseley, more than 20 times when he attacked her at their home outside Houston, according to The Associated Press.
Police say the motive is still under investigation, but authorities say Moseley’s son provided “a voluntary statement in which he confessed to causing the death of his mother.”
Following the murder, the boy was reported missing, but Moseley’s son and car were both located in Houston when a family member called police on Sunday.
Child welfare officials said the boy and a younger sibling had been removed twice from her custody because of her substance abuse and her partner’s domestic violence, reported ABC-13 Eyewitness News:
Estella Olguin, spokeswoman for Harris County Child Protective Services, has previously said the teen was first removed from the mother’s custody in October 2005 and was in foster care until his paternal grandmother received custody of him in March 2007. He again was removed from his mother’s custody in April 2010 and was in foster care until his father was awarded custody in February 2011.
The teenager’s father also defended him to local reporters after Moseley’s death, calling him “a good kid who was dealt a bad deck of cards,” according to Inside Edition.
The boy was charged with a juvenile count of murder and is currently being detained at a juvenile detention facility.
