Smart pet technology company Fi announced on Wednesday the launch of its newest dog tracker, designed to maintain location coverage in remote areas through the use of low-Earth-orbit satellites.
The new device, called the Fi Ultra, integrates T-Mobile’s T-Satellite service with SpaceX’s Starlink network.
According to the company, the device represents the first time consumer pet technology has incorporated satellite-grade connectivity.

The integration is aimed at resolving a common failure point for standard pet wearables, which typically lose tracking capabilities the moment an animal travels past the range of traditional cellular towers.
The device features a dual-band GPS tracking alongside LTE, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth capabilities.
It utilizes an automatic switching function that runs on terrestrial LTE networks by default but shifts directly to the Starlink satellite network when cellular coverage becomes unavailable.
This allows owners to receive continuous, real-time location updates whether their pet is in an urban park or an isolated rural area.
“Our mission has always been to strengthen the human-animal connection via data, to give dogs more freedom while keeping them safe,” Jonathan Bensamoun, co-founder and CEO of Fi, said in a press release.
He added that the satellite integration expands this tracking network across the country.
In addition to location tracking, the wearable includes a built-in training system called Fi Callback. The proprietary feature utilizes distinct sound and vibration signals to signal a dog to return on command, operating without the use of static electric shocks.
The device features a multi-day battery life to sustain tracking during extended outdoor trips. Physically, the tracker is compatible with standard dog harnesses and collars.

Owners using the company’s previous Series 3 or Series 3+ models can snap the new tracker directly onto their existing collar hardware.
The New York-headquartered company made the tracker available for purchase on its website starting Wednesday.
Pricing for new members is set at $199 for the device, paired with a mandatory $189 annual membership. Existing Fi members can upgrade to the new hardware for a flat fee of $299.
