The Mount Sinai Health System has appointed Dr. Eva A. Mistry as the new Chair of the Department of Neurology. In her new role, she will lead neurological care, research, and medical and graduate medical education across the entire health system and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York.
Dr. Mistry’s academic and medical foundation began in India where she earned her medical degree from Smt. N.H.L. Municipal Medical College in Ahmedabad. She then moved to the United States for advanced medical training, completing her neurology residency at Houston Methodist Hospital.
She subsequently pursued a fellowship in vascular neurology at the University of Cincinnati and earned a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation from Vanderbilt University, where she also served on the faculty.

Before joining Mount Sinai, Dr. Mistry held prominent academic and clinical roles at the University of Cincinnati. She served as Vice Chair of Research and Division Director of Vascular Neurology in the Department of Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine.
Additionally, she directed the Gardner Neuroscience Institute’s Stroke Center of Excellence and the Ohio Valley NIH StrokeNet Regional Coordinating Center.
An accomplished clinical investigator, her research centers on improving care and outcomes for patients with cerebrovascular disease and stroke. Her work has received support from the National Institutes of Health, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, and industry partners.

Dr. Mistry has served as the national Principal Investigator of five multicenter clinical trials and as Protocol Principal Investigator for the NIH-funded StrokeNet Thrombectomy Endovascular Platform trial. She also served as Associate Director of the NIH StrokeNet National Coordinating Center.
With over 130 peer-reviewed publications in journals such as JAMA, The Lancet, and JAMA Neurology, Dr. Mistry is also a Senior Associate Editor for the American Heart Association’s journal Stroke and a Fellow of the American Heart Association/Stroke Council.
Her contributions extend to international clinical guidelines, including roles on the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association Acute Stroke Guidelines. Dr. Mistry’s recent honors include receiving the 2026 American Heart Association Stroke Council Mid-Career Achievement Award.
