SSB officials said that the marine had visited India in October 2017. Though he was asked to leave the country on January 17, 2018, he overstayed and the government deported him on January 26. His visa was canceled as a result of overstaying in India violating the order of the authorities.
“On detailed questioning by security agencies, including the IB, the RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) and the police, it was found that he had visited India on October 26, 2017, and was asked to leave the country on January 17. His visa was canceled and he was deported on January 26,†an SSB spokesperson was quoted as saying by Press Trust of India (PTI).
USD 1,919, a compass and an ID card were recovered from him during interrogation. He holds a Nepalese tourist visa which is valid until April 12.
According to the officials, Kyung migrated to the US from South Korea in 1998. He revealed that he visited South Korea after getting deported from India and left for Nepal on March 12.
“His statements were found contradictory as he had the tickets and boarding pass, but there was no such entry in his passport. According to him after reaching Nepal he visited the country and he was apprehended by the SSB while he came to visit Janakpur (Nepal) and its nearby village area,” the spokesperson said.
The agencies are yet to find out the reason why he tried to enter India illegally. They have started collecting more information about the marine.
