Canada no longer wants Elon Musk as a citizen. Reportedly, more than 150,000 people from Canada have signed a parliamentary petition calling for their country to strip Elon Musk’s Canadian citizenship because of the tech billionaire’s alliance with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Trump has been going after Canada in his recent rhetoric, claiming that he will claim Canada as the 51st state of the U.S. “I think Canada would be much better off being a 51st state,” the U.S. president repeated in a Fox News interview that aired recently.

Trump has been going hard against Canada threatening steep tariffs as well as hinting at a ridiculous attempt at annexation if his comments about the 51st state are to be believed. But Canadians seem to be more miffed with Musk, the tech billionaire who has been enjoying a lot of proxy-presidential power due to his proximity to Trump.
Reportedly, British Columbian author Qualia Reed launched the petition in Canada’s House of Commons, where it was sponsored by New Democrat parliamentary member and avowed Musk critic Charlie Angus, as the Canadian Press first reported over the weekend.
Born in South Africa in 1971, Musk’s mother, Maye Musk, is Canadian, which means Musk automatically acquired Canadian citizenship at birth.
Musk spent part of his early life in Canada, attending Queen’s University in Ontario for two years before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania in the U.S. He later moved to the United States, where he became a naturalized U.S. citizen.
Although Musk is primarily known for his American ventures, including founding companies like Tesla and SpaceX, his Canadian citizenship stems from his mother’s heritage. Despite living and working predominantly in the U.S., Musk’s Canadian connection remains a part of his background, adding an interesting layer to his multinational identity.
