GE HealthCare has appointed Akshar Awalgaonkar as Chief Procurement Officer as it aims to overcome the biggest challenges in healthcare, working to improve diagnostic accuracy, simplify workflows and boost efficiency.
The Indian American executive will lead the company’s global procurement strategy, focusing on driving operational excellence, supply chain resilience and strategic value across the organisation’s value chain, according to a company announcement.
Awalgaonkar is joining GE HealthCare to “advance our mission of creating a world where healthcare has no limits,” said the firm operating across medical imaging, ultrasound, patient care solutions and pharmaceutical diagnostics.
Now, it is using accelerated adoption of digital and AI technologies, alongside advancements in therapies and other devices, to help deliver more targeted treatments in order to improve patient outcomes.

Awalgaonkar joins GE HealthCare from Avery Dennison, having spent two and a half years there as Group Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer. In this role, he helped transform the packaging manufacturer’s operations.
Throughout his 20-year career, Awalgaonkar has worked his way up the procurement and leadership ladder. He began as a trainee engineer at Bosch in India, where he worked for two years.

His diverse industry career includes leadership roles at reputed firms such as GE, Whirlpool, AbbVie and Avery Dennison where his teams and he have consistently delivered holistic enterprise value through functional transformation.
He holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, an MS from Oklahoma State University, and a BE from Pune University. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration from Penn State University.
Awalgaonkar serves as an Executive Board Member for Oklahoma State University’s Engineering & Technology School Board and is the Executive Sponsor for Avery Dennison’s Women’s Business Resource Group.
A frequent industry voice, he headlined the 2023 Chief Procurement Officer Summit and the 2024 Global Release Liner Summit as a keynote speaker. He also serves as visiting faculty for Leadership and Integrated Supply Chain at several reputed universities.
