Commercial drone delivery platform Matternet has appointed Indian American supply chain veteran Sanjay Shah to its Board of Directors as the company accelerates the enterprise growth of its autonomous delivery systems.
Shah, who serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer at Starbucks, brings more than 30 years of global operational experience across retail, technology, e-commerce, and automotive sectors.
Prior to joining Starbucks in 2025, Shah held senior leadership positions across major corporations, including Senior Vice President of Operations at Gopuff, Chief Operating Officer at Beyond Meat, Senior Vice President at Tesla, and Vice President of North American Customer Fulfillment at Amazon, along with earlier executive roles at Dell.

Before building his corporate career in the United States, Shah began his higher education in India, studying civil engineering at The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in Gujarat. He later relocated to the U.S. and earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
The appointment comes as Mountain View–based Matternet expands its reach across healthcare, food, and retail distribution.
Matternet operates the world’s first FAA Type-Certified drone delivery system and has logged over 60,000 commercial flights across urban and suburban markets in the U.S. and Europe.
Recent milestones include launching aerial operations for the UK’s National Health Service to connect hospital campuses in Central London, as well as establishing a strategic partnership with SoftBank Robotics America.

“Drone delivery is entering a new phase, moving from early commercial deployments to scaled, everyday infrastructure,” said Andreas Raptopoulos, Founder and CEO of Matternet. He noted that Shah’s background in constructing complex global supply chains brings the operational discipline necessary to turn autonomous technology into reliable, large-scale delivery systems.
Shah emphasized the operational shift needed in last-mile logistics, appreciating Matternet’s integrated framework of aircraft, physical ground stations, and automated software designed to serve enterprise clients.
