As claims denials by insurance companies rise by up 20.2% in 2023, hospitals are facing mounting administrative costs and reduced access to patient care. Cofactor AI has introduced the Cofactor Denial Suite, an innovative platform designed to streamline the appeals process, alongside announcing $4 million in seed funding led by Drive Capital.
“We are leveling the playing field in the AI arms race between payers and providers,” said Adi Tantravahi, co-founder and CEO of Cofactor AI, in a press release.
“Cofactor AI puts powerful, AI-driven tools directly into the hands of providers to ensure they are compensated fairly for the care they deliver to patients,” he added.

Founded in 2023 by Tantravahi and CTO Juan Sebastian Lozano, Cofactor AI harnesses the founders’ expertise in analytics and machine learning. The Cofactor Denial Suite integrates with electronic health record (EHR) systems and uses AI to review clinical evidence, coding standards, and payer policies to craft data-driven appeals. This approach saves hospitals significant time and money, enabling a single individual to manage appeals in minutes.
The release also noted that Margaret Schuler, a revenue cycle management expert, highlighted the innovation and said: “More than ever, there is a need for automation in the RCM [Revenue Cycle Management] space. Denials continue to plague the healthcare industry. Cofactor AI leaned into curing this plague…proving to be effective at removing manual intervention, increasing overturn rates, and securing the appropriate reimbursement for services delivered.”

The platform also benefits patients by reducing financial surprises from denied claims and improving hospitals’ financial stability, ensuring continued access to care. Early users, including Banner Health, have noted the platform’s efficiency. “Using Cofactor AI, an individual team member can prioritize, review, and appeal a denial in a few minutes,” said Alex Forbis of Banner Health.
By addressing an industry-wide challenge, Cofactor AI is transforming denial management, helping hospitals recover lost revenue and improve care delivery.
