OpenAI has revealed plans to launch advanced-level AI agents with a new pricing strategy.
According to reports, the AI research giant is set to launch a tiered subscription model with plans ranging from $2,000 to $20,000 per month for its newest AI agents. These AI agents have been created for advanced tasks, and are said to offer “PhD-level research capabilities.”
The three tiers for the new agents include $2000 per month, $10,000 per month, and $20,000 per month with each of these price points offering different level of intelligence.
The agents priced at $2000 per month are targeted at “high income knowledge professionals” who may need advanced automation for tasks like data analysis, report generation, or project management.

The second tier, priced at $10,000 per month, is targeted towards software developers, and offers AI agents that are capable of writing, debugging, or optimizing code autonomously, streamlining development processes for technology teams.
The premium tier, priced $20,000 per month offers PhD-level research, and is positioned as a tool for academics, scientists, and research and development (R&D) departments requiring in-depth analysis, literature reviews, or hypothesis testing.
These prices indicate OpenAI’s confidence in the value these agents can deliver. positioning them as premium tools for enterprise-level productivity. Of course, not without a financial strategy at play, with sources reportedly suggesting the company expects these agents will account for 20% to 25% of its long-term revenue.
While specific details haven’t been revealed, it is expected that the $2,000 tier might appeal to professionals seeking to automate repetitive yet knowledge-intensive tasks, freeing up time for strategic decision-making. The $10,000-tier, on the other hand, is expected to rival existing tools like GitHub Copilot (which is already powered by OpenAI tech).

The $20,000 tier, however, might be the real game changer. It is expected that this research agent would revolutionize academic and industrial research by synthesizing vast datasets, generating insights, and even drafting publishable reports—all at a fraction of the time it takes human researchers.
OpenAI might not have much to worry regarding consumer response as major investor SoftBank has already promised to purchase $3 billion of OpenAI solutions annually from the AI leader.
