Indian state Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu made a bid for Alphabet-owned Google to consider the port city of Visakhapatnam as the ideal location for their new chip design and manufacturing center during the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland on Jan. 22.
“Naidu requested Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian to explore opportunities in Visakhapatnam for a chip design center, as Google is now manufacturing its chips for server operations,” an official release stated.

Naidu also wrote in a post on X: “Had an engaging discussion with Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, and Andre Nakazawa, Manager–International Organization at Google. We explored the latest advancements in technology and the incredible opportunities in Andhra Pradesh. With our exceptionally talented youth, we’re poised to redefine the future of tech!”
Reportedly, Naidu also requested to set up a chip manufacturing unit in the state, integrating it into the Google Cloud server supply chain, expressing his aspiration for Andhra Pradesh to become a hub for Google’s server operations. He assured the tech giant of full support from the Andhra Pradesh state government for these initiatives.
Recently, Google Cloud, the third-largest cloud provider in the world, signed an MoU or a memorandum of understanding with the Andhra Pradesh’s state government to set up its “Data City” in Visakhapatnam. Google Cloud has already established cloud regions in Delhi and Mumbai in India. Part of Naidu’s campaign to create two million jobs in the state within the next five years, he plans for Google to be the initial anchor for the city’s emerging tech hub.

In addition to Google’s executives, Naidu met Microsoft’s founder Bill Gates during the WEF 2025. On X, Naidu shared how in his reign as a state leader in 1995, he pushed for the IT boom in Hyderabad, Telangana—before the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh—and now in 2025, he wishes to advocate for AI in 2025 for Visakhapatnam.
