Amazon is doubling down on its promise of faster shipping—this time with a major push into rural America. In a press release on Tuesday, the e-commerce giant revealed plans to invest approximately $4 billion by the end of 2026 with a focus on small towns and rural communities across the country. The company plans to expand to bring same-day and next-day delivery to “tens of millions” of people living in smaller towns and rural communities across the U.S. by the end of 2025.
The expansion is set to benefit over 4,000 smaller cities, towns, and rural communities, signaling Amazon’s commitment to leveling the playing field between urban and non-urban customers. “After delivering to Prime members at record-breaking speeds in 2023 and 2024, we are continuing to innovate to deliver even faster in 2025,” the company stated. “So far this year, the number of items delivered the same or next day in the U.S. has increased by more than 30% compared to the same period last year.”

Everyday essentials—like groceries, beauty products, household items, food and beverages will now be eligible for same-day or next-day delivery for customers in small towns and rural areas. Prime members, who pay $14.99 per month or $139 annually, can take advantage of unlimited free same-day delivery on orders over $25.
Amazon is highlighting that its investment in rural communities isn’t just about faster shipping—it’s about making everyday life more convenient and affordable for customers, no matter where they live. By expanding fast delivery to places like North Padre Island, Texas; Asbury, Iowa; Lewes, Delaware; and Fort Seneca, Ohio, the company says it’s helping people save both time and money.
The e-commerce giant further elaborated that their fast delivery service made them one of the largest grocers in the U.S., with over $100 billion in gross sales excluding sales from Whole Foods Market and Amazon Fresh. It has already expanded its speedy delivery options to customers in over 1,000 small or rural communities, and people are buying these essential items at a higher rate than before. “ Of the top 50 repurchased items for Same-Day Delivery in these areas, over 90% are Amazon everyday essentials items,” said the company.
Back in April, Amazon announced investment of over $4 billion to grow its delivery network in rural parts of the U.S. As part of this effort, the company intended to build new facilities, hiring more delivery drivers, and upgrading existing delivery hubs. “This investment will also grow our rural delivery network’s footprint to over 200 delivery stations, and we estimate it will create over 100,000 new jobs and driving opportunities through a wide range of full-time, part-time and flexible positions in our buildings and on the roads,” said Amazon.
The company says it leverages advanced machine learning algorithms to anticipate what local Prime members might need most. Local preferred products such as “wild bird food in Dubuque, Iowa, travel backpacks in Findlay, Ohio, and after-sun body butter in Sharptown, Maryland,” said Amazon.
