University of Missouri faculty member Suchi Guha has earned the system’s highest academic distinction, joining a select group of educators recognized for career-defining scholarly achievements.
The University of Missouri Board of Curators announced that Guha, a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, received a Curators’ Distinguished Professorship.
The designation stands as the top academic rank bestowed across the four-campus UM system, honoring prominent faculty members for exceptional research, teaching and professional service.

At Mizzou, Guha has established herself as a leader in organic electronics, bridging optical spectroscopy of advanced materials and device applications. Her research helps enable new generations of electronics and computing technologies. She has also developed innovative experimental techniques that allow scientists to observe how these materials behave under varying conditions.
Beyond her laboratory breakthroughs, Guha shapes the academic community as the director of graduate studies in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, helping prepare the next generation of physicists. Her contributions to research and education have resulted in numerous awards for both her scientific work and teaching.
Guha earned her MS in Physics from the Indian Institute of technology, Delhi with her project on fabrication and characterization of amorphous silicon solar cells after getting her BS Physics (honours) degree from Miranda House College, University of Delhi.

She later did her PhD in Physics from Arizona State University with her thesis Raman spectroscopic studies of Buckminsterfullerene and related compounds.
Guha shares this year’s prestigious honor with five other faculty members from across the UM system, whose expertise spans mathematics, molecular microbiology, music composition, global supply chains and veterinary medicine.
As the flagship campus of the broader University of Missouri System, which also encompasses academic institutions in Kansas City, Rolla and St. Louis, the Columbia campus serves as a major comprehensive research hub supporting thousands of undergraduate and graduate students across its numerous schools and colleges.
