Indian American academic Santhosh Ramalingegowda has been appointed the new director of the J.M. Tull School of Accounting at the University of Georgia Terry College of Business effective August 1. He also holds the Deloitte Foundation Endowed Professorship at the Tull School.
Ramalingegowda, a Mysore University, India, graduate succeeds Margaret Christ, who was named associate dean of graduate programs and AI initiatives at the Terry College.
“Santhosh has been a valued and highly regarded faculty member at the Tull School of Accounting for two decades and understands its long tradition of excellence,” said Santanu Chatterjee, the dean of the Terry College. “I am confident the Tull School will continue to thrive under his leadership and be a destination for accounting students to excel and prepare for successful careers.”

Ramalingegowda joined the Tull accounting faculty as an assistant professor in 2006. During his time at Tull, Ramalingegowda served as its PhD Coordinator, was appointed as the Deloitte Foundation Endowed Professor in 2024 and served as a Deloitte Faculty Fellow from 2018-2024.
At present, he serves as associate editor of the Journal of Accounting Auditing & Finance and an editorial board member for Accounting and Business Research. He earned his PhD in accounting from Pennsylvania State University and his bachelor’s from Mysore University in India.

“The Tull School’s success is a testament to the extraordinary faculty, staff, and students who have built an outstanding record of achievement over the past 20 years,” said Ramalingegowda. He was excited to build on the foundation laid by previous school directors “by recruiting and supporting exceptional scholars and ensuring that the Tull School remains a place of excellence in accounting education, research, and service.”
His research focuses on how institutional investors influence and trade on financial accounting information reported by corporate managers, and how financial reporting quality influences major corporate decisions.
Ramalingegowda’s teaching expertise includes courses in managerial accounting and capital markets research. He has served as a J. Hatten Howard III Teaching Professor since 2013, earned Outstanding Teacher Recognition in 2012, and was awarded UGA’s Student Career Development Award five times.
